Striving for Excellence

Dear Teachers, Students, and Community Members,

It is with great pleasure that I welcome you to the 2017-18 school year. I am very excited to serve all of you in my fifth year as your principal. Last school year was a most successful one at every level; academically, athletically and as a school community. As great as the last school year was for Mt. Eden, the 2017-18 school year has the potential to be even better. In order to make this happen, our great high school will need leadership and support.

Here are some results we’ve accomplished last year:

  • 2016-17 Graduation Rate: 99%

  • 2017-18: 86% of our seniors will be attending college

  • 2016-17 Reclassification of English Language Learners: 42%

  • Behavior/School Climate: Suspensions have decreased by 60%

  • $700,000 in scholarships awarded to graduating seniors

This year we will continue to strive to create even more authentic and innovative learning opportunities for students. Our highly skilled and effective faculty embraces working together to ensure content alignment as well as sharing best practices to enhance their pedagogy. We know that by working together we will create opportunities for students to achieve beyond their own perceived ability levels. This is my goal for each and every student at Mt. Eden High School. While we refine the ways we collaborate, make decisions, and solve problems together, we will be putting a strong focus on continuing to build community with each other, our students, and their parents.  We will be establishing some new identities of who we are and what we do as we move toward growing as a high school.

Parents – as your daughter or son finalizes their course selections for the 2017-18 school year, I want to encourage you to discuss the choices they have made with them.  While we want our students to challenge themselves academically, we also want them to live a balanced life. Please make sure your daughter or son understands the rigor and the time required of the courses they select, especially if they have other commitments beyond school (e.g. athletics, visual and performing arts, club activities, jobs, family life, etc.).

The first day of school is Monday, August 28th, and as always, the start of a school year is filled with excitement and anticipation for our staff and students; new teachers, new friends and for some a new experience at the high school. Our goal is to ensure that all students begin the school year equipped for success.

This year’s theme is entitled “Striving for Excellence" with the focus of involving all stakeholders, faculty, staff and students.

I sincerely hope you will take the time to visit our web page and learn about the opportunities available to all students who are members of our Mt. Eden family. I am confident that this will be an outstanding school year and look forward to working with staff and community to continue the Mt. Eden tradition of academic excellence.

Best,

Greg Fobbs

Principal

Eden.

Saludos cordiales,
